{Thirsty Thursday: Gingerbread Cocktail}

Earlier this week, a woman in my office brought in an absolutely gorgeous gingerbread house. Seriously, it’s a work of art. The details on it are out of this world! The house is almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.

Since then, I’ve had gingerbread on the brain. A gingerbread house of my own may or may not happen this weekend (read: definitely happening). I have also been thinking a lot about Christmas parties and I believe this would be a delicious beverage to serve at your Christmas soiree!

Ingredients

Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

2 tablespoons light molasses

1 inch piece of fresh gingerroot

2 cinnamon sticks

1 teaspoon whole cloves

Cocktail

Orange wedge

Brown sugar

2 tablespoons Simple Syrup (above)

1 ounce vanilla vodka

1 ounce half-and-half

1/2 ounce coffee liqueur

Directions

Simple Syrup:

Mix ingredients into a saucepan.

Heat on medium-high heat and stir until sugar is dissolved.

Remove from heat and let sit for one hour to cool.

Strain into jar and discard spices.

Cover jar and refrigerate until needed.

Cocktail:

Create a garnish by coating the rim of the martini glass with the orange wedge.

Gently press the rim into a small plate of brown sugar.

Fill the shaker with ice and add simple syrup, vodka, half-and-half and liqueur.

Cover and shake.
