From a young age, I was not a big breakfast gal. Don’t get me wrong, I love breakfast foods. I am always up for brunch. Sesame Street’s “Cereal Girl” was a favorite childhood anthem of mine. But when it comes to eating that first meal of the day, albeit the most important, I just cannot get into it when it’s too early. Eating a big breakfast before 8am is impossible for me. I just cannot bring myself to do it.

If you’re someone who can wake up and immediately have sausage links, eggs, pancakes and wash it down with a big glass of milk and some OJ, more power to you. I have to get a little more creative with my weekday early morning meal choices. Enter the Green Monstah.

No, I’m not talking about the Red Sox icon. I’m talking about the smoothie. At first, I was hesitant about it. You’re telling me that I’m going to blend up a bunch of spinach and not taste it at all? Get outta town. It takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and is positively packed with protein. The piece de resistance: it tastes like a peanut butter banana shake!!!

    Looks SO good! Spinach in smoothies is actually magical….it’s literally been my go-to since I became brave enough to try it! I usually do some combination of fruits, like this one: http://cakeandlilies.com/2013/07/30/blueberry-banana-mango-spinach-smoothie/
