How To Create An Easy Summer Outfit For Work - DC Girl in Pearls Life + Style Blog

Sweater Shell // Pencil Skirt // Heels // Jewelry

Summers in DC are the closest I ever hope to living in an actual swamp. The humidity causes your hair to mutiny against you and you will desperately search for the lightest materials in your closet when the alarm clock goes off on Monday morning. I try my best to create a system for my morning routine to get out the door quickly and realized that my unofficial work uniform may be my best system yet. No pressure, right?

I pretty much live in J.Crew’s Jackie shell and other sweater shells because they are lightweight, breathe nicely and are sleeveless. And they almost always have a matching Jackie cardigan that you can toss on when you exit the muggy DC weather and enter the arctic tundra known as your office because of a full blast A/C. After 5 p.m., fold your cardigan into your tote and head to drinks with friends and your look is good to go!

Pencil skirts are my biggest weapon in my work outfit arsenal. They create a flattering silhouette and more importantly, these pencil skirts are cotton. It’s truly the fabric of my life during the dog days of summer.

My tried-and-true Jessica Simpson nude heels and multi-strand pearl necklace round the outfit out and I am out the door with time to spare.

Do you have an  ol’ reliable outfit you know you can throw together in minutes?

I love this look! I live a couple hours from DC in Virginia, so I know exactly what you mean about the humidity!
