Champagne Taste, Beer Budget Guide (Part Deux)

When I think of the sounds of the holiday season, I think of Christmas carols + Mariah Carey but I also think of three little noises: pop, fizz, clink. That’s right, we’re talking champagne today. Nothing says celebration quite like the popping sound of a bottle of champagne. I almost always jump when I hear it even if I’m the one opening it!

Champagne can be a bit intimidating: you know the pricey labels like Veuve and then there’s the inexpensive brands perfect for making mimosas on the weekend. But what about the middle ground? Where are the great champagne taste on a beer budget options?

Last year, I created a guide to champagne deals and decided my little guide needed a facelift. The Guide Part Deux has some great champagne deals so just start with the Veuve and work your way from left to right on each line to go from pricey to reasonable. Don’t worry, there’s a great selection of mid-priced champagne that packs the taste without emptying your wallet ; )

And if you REALLY want to get into the bubbly spirit (and why wouldn’t you?), I created larger-than-life champagne bubbles perfect for your Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties. Ch-ch-check it out here! BAM! Or more like, POP!

The Champagne Guide for the girl on a budget - lots of great bubbly for under $20! - DC Girl in Pearls

 Veuve Clicquot: $45 // Moet: $45 // Perrier Jouet: $40

Charles de Marques: $20 // Chandon: $18 // Blason de Bourgogne: $14 // Fleuraison: $12

Louise d’ Estree: $8 // Cecelia Beretta Prosecco Treviso: $8 // Schloss Biebrich: $5.50

Trader Joe’s Blanc de Blancs: $4.50

Of the mid-priced champagnes, I personally feel like the best bang for your buck is the Chandon. I love the crisp brut taste and come on, who can resist their holiday labels?! Nobody, that’s who. I minored in Marketing in college so you’d think I’d be smarter than to fall for shiny packaging. Nope. Not even a little bit. Those shiny labels see me comin’ a mile away.

I also love the Fleuraison, it’s definitely brut but will be easy to sip for those who don’t like that dry sensation. And you really can’t beat the $12 price tag.

If you’re looking for a champagne for New Year’s Day brunch, Trader Joe’s Blanc de Blancs is where it’s at. At $4.50 a pop (giggle), Blanc de Blancs was practically designed to be purchased in bulk for Sunday brunch. It mixes just as well with orange juice as it does with blood orange soda if you’re looking for a different take on the morning cocktail staple. Or mix the Blanc de Blancs with orange juice AND blood orange soda. Not a bad way to ring in 2015!

Do you have a favorite champagne to add to the guide? Or a fun mimosa recipe? Please share!
