Thirsty Thursday: Cranberry Ginger Bourbon Fizz

Cranberry Ginger Bourbon Fizz, a holiday cocktail ready in seconds - DC Girl in PearlsLike all good discoveries, I stumbled upon this cocktail recipe by complete accident. Picture it: Last Monday night. I went out in the rain to Trader Joe’s because I desperately needed groceries. I didn’t even have cereal, guys. And I really wanted guac. So in the grand scheme of my life, the pros of getting groceries far outweighed the cons of the less-than-stellar weather. I picked up the usual subjects on my grocery list: quinoa, veggies, cereal + chicken. And then I walked by their holiday seasonal products. On a whim, I picked up a jar of Trader Joe’s Cranberry Apple Butter. I had zero ideas of how to use it but I figured hey, for $3 I can figure something out.

I was messing around with my Tervis cocktail shaker and figured it was time for bourbon to come out and play. And then I felt like being a scientist so I added a spoonful of the cranberry apple butter into the shaker and gave it a shake just to see what would happen. BAM! A cocktail that makes me like bourbon again was born.

To paraphrase Mary Poppins, “A spoonful of cranberry butter makes the bourbon go down.”

Or as my friend Caroline put it: “It tastes like a holiday.” You heard the lady, cue the music!

What brand Ginger Beer did you use?

I used Saranac Ginger Beer, which I picked up at Wegman’s (http://bit.ly/1w1SSnG). I also love Gosling’s Ginger Beer, it’s made for Dark ‘n Stormys but it plays well with other cocktails.
