Top 5 Capitol Hill Happy Hours

Cocktail Emoji - DC Girl in Pearls

Whoever invented happy hour was a genius. In the l-o-n-g stretch between brunches, happy hours are necessary for catching up with best friends, unwinding from the day and making sure your cute work outfit (like this one or this one) wasn’t worn in vain. Today, instead of posting about a drink, I thought I’d share my favorite happy hours on Capitol Hill because sometimes you just want to sit there and have someone hand you a cocktail.

Cava Mezze: It should come as no shock given my obsession love of Cava Mezze’s brunch. But their happy hour is probably my current favorite in the city. You can walk in with $20 and easily have 2 cocktails with a small (but generous) plate. Or get 3 cocktails…just sayin’ their mojito is my favorite.

Monday-Friday 5:00 – 7:00

Must Order: Gyro, Fries + Mojito

Ambar: +1 for rooftop and +1 for always having really great customer service, even when it’s packed. If you like mangos, I highly suggest you order their mango lemonade. It’s perfect on a hot DC summer day! And if you want a light snack, I’m hooked on their Balkan salad. Simple tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and cow cheese are a dynamite combination.

Monday-Friday 4:00 – 7:00

Must Order: Sparkling Wine, Mango Lemonade, Balkan Salad + Fries

Hank’s Oyster Bar: Any excuse to order oysters and I’m allll in. The brinier the better and I need a healthy dash or two of Tabasco to top ’em off. At Hank’s happy hour, oysters on the half shell are $1.25 so grab your friends and order a sampler. And if you need an extra snack, the corn hushpuppies hit the spot every time.

Monday-Saturday 4:00 – 7:00

Must Order: Sparkling Wine, Oysters on the Half Shell

Beuchert’s Saloon: Beuchert’s is known for their hand crafted cocktails and when I say their drinks are made fresh, I mean it. I mean, they have an herb garden right on the bar. The two important days you need to memorize for Beuchert’s are Mondays when they do $5 Old Fashioneds and Tuesday for 1/2 price burger night. This would be an ideal date…just sayin’. They also have a $5 Sauvignon Blanc that does the trick.

Monday-Saturday 4:00 – 7:00

Must Order: Burger, Old Fashioneds, Sauvignon Blanc

Sonoma: Sonoma has it all, a patio and two floors with huge windows thrown open to catch a summer breeze. Oh, and they happen to have $6 Prosecco and the best fried Brussels sprouts in DC. Can you guess what I order every single time I go there? Their small plate menu changes each season but the Brussels sprouts are forever in my heart and on their menu.

Monday-Saturday 4:30 – 7:30

Must Order: Brussels Sprouts and Prosecco
