Can we make Summer Resolutions a thing? Last week I was thinking about what I want to do and see this summer, partially because I needed an excuse to make a list…
I have my summer reading list, a list of happy hours and brunches and I’m almost ready to hit the ground running. But I also made a Summer Resolution: Learn new skills and hone existing ones. During the day, I work in digital and one of my favorite parts is keeping up with changing platforms (Lookin’ at you, Instagram), figuring out how to leverage new platforms (cough Snapchat cough) + brainstorming how to create break-through content.
Skillshare has been a great resource from learning the Adobe Creative Suite to optimizing social strategy and recently Skillshare has even included lifestyle blog content, which is just 👌
Skillshare offers thousands of videos and provides a community of creatives at your fingertips. If you find a class or teacher you especially love, you can follow them to make sure you never miss one of their classes!
Skillshare is normally $10/month but if you click on this link, you can get 3 months for $0.99! Here are a few of my favorite classes for bloggers + creatives:
Personal and Lifestyle Branding: Building Your Story by Kate Arends: Every few months, I like to do a brand “check-in” with my blog. Is my content staying on brand? Is my voice and aesthetic staying true to me and to my blog’s mission? It’s sort of silly to think of a blog having a mission but a mission statement helps keep me focused.
Lifestyle Photography: Capturing Food, Flavors, Conversation by Marte Marie Forsberg: Marte has excellent tips for making the most out of natural light for photography as well as tips for shooting on the go (aka nailing the perfect brunch spot).
Analytics & Authenticity on Instagram: Crafting Your Digital Presence by Sophia Chang: I’d say next to my website, Instagram + Snapchat are tied for #1 favorite social channels for blogging. I’m not naturally a numbers person and analytics tend to intimidate me but Sophia breaks down the numbers so you can use Instagram in a more strategic way.
Become a Better Blogger: Content Planning by Andrea Goulet: I use a Google doc for my content planning and I’m always curious to see how others plan and streamline their content calendars. Andrea breaks it down and while I stuck with my Google doc, I did take away a few tips to make my calendar work for me.
Animating with Ease in After Effects by Jake Bartlett: Jake’s one of my favorite teachers on Skillshare. After Effects is insanely intimidating but he takes things step-by-step so it’s easy to follow along and get the rhyme and reason behind the program. He’s a very consistent teacher and publishes new videos weekly, I always like seeing his email alert show up in my inbox.
Do you use Skillshare? What classes/teachers are your favorites?
