Cozy at Home

Lime and Leaf Blanket | dcgirlinpearls.com

On Saturday, my alarm went  off at 7:45 and I rolled out of bed and headed out the door to barre class. It was chilly and the wind cut right through me as I buried my gloved hands into my coat pockets and walked as fast as possible to class. After an intense 55 minute class, I repeated the process of getting back to my warm and cozy apartment. Don’t worry, I took a shower before practically swan diving back into bed and curling up under the blankets.

I grew up in a family who takes their blankets very seriously and I have quite the collection: Fuzzy, quilted, feather-stuffed, I’ve got ’em all. There’s just nothing like wrapping a blanket around you as you listen to the wind howling outside. It’s instantly calming and helps me pause to take a beat and clear my head.

With the end of the year and their deluge of holiday parties, I can’t remember the last evening where I went straight home. I’ve stolen moments to meditate (Headspace is a favorite app) but 2 hours or even just one hour to center myself? Nope. So I was especially happy on Saturday to have the luxury of 2 hours to not think about my editorial calendar, or emails I need to send or reply to, 9-5 responsibilities, how I need to clean my oven or any other little minute detail that pops into my head.

Lime + Leaf, an Alexandria, VA-based company founded by two sisters, recently reached out to me about their 100% American-made bedding, blankets and pillows that are all inspired by nature. They graciously sent me a throw and a candle and they are superb quality. In fact, I’ve got my sand dollar throw around me as I type this in bed. The sand dollar throw blanket in seaglass is instantly warm and cozy and the soft blue makes my bed seem like a tranquil sanctuary. A place to unwind with a good book – like Grace Not Perfection by Emily Ley. Lime + Leaf also sent me a sea salt candle and guys, I love its fresh and clean scent. I am not a big candle person (Fire safety is treated just as seriously as blankets in my family) and sometimes their fake scents just seem so chemically to me. But not this candle, it makes me feel like I’m spending the day at the beach – and its dotted container makes it a wonderful hostess gift for the holidays. In fact, I’d highly recommend both the throw blanket and candle if you’re searching for last-minute gifts this holiday season. Or maybe treat yourself to a little at-home R+R oasis? Thanks to Lime + Leaf, “Serenity now!” isn’t so far off…

We take our blankets very seriously too!

I love that the combination of your candle and blanket created the feel of a beach trip in the middle of the city on a cold winter’s day.

We’re serious about blankets around here as well! Even int he summer wit the AC going–there is a blanket being used by at least 1/2 of us in this house at all times!
