When I was mapping out my editorial calendar for January, I got a little stuck on the cocktails part. I figured people would be looking to clean up their diet (I’m in that boat big time) and challenged myself to plan clean eating recipes to share with you. It’s a win-win, we’re both eating better! Have you tried making oatmeal cookie overnight oats or the strawberry chia jam? But with people eating clean, I wasn’t sure what to do with cocktails. Especially since a popular New Year’s resolution is to have a sober January. And I wouldn’t want to tempt you to break a resolution! Especially when I’m almost a week into a 2 week alcohol detox. Solidarity, sisters! So I’ve decided to create delicious cocktails that aren’t loaded with sugar and could also work as tasty mocktails. Luckily, this cranberry ginger vodka cocktail fits both criteria! If you’re interested in “resolution-friendly” version of cocktails, I’d be happy to keep this up after January ends!
Pop fizz clink! 2016’s been a wild ride and while we’re all counting down until 2017 arrives, I’m focusing on the positive of New Year’s Eve: Bubbly and sequins!! I’m flying back to DC on Saturday afternoon and my friends and I are doing dinner at Medium Rare followed by ringing in the New Year with some bubbles (and punch). I’ve got my sequin skirt all ready to go and now I just need to pick up some bubbly on my way home from the airport. And I’ll be ready to ring in the new year! It’s becoming a blog tradition to share a guide to bubbly for New Year’s Eve, you don’t need to spend a fortune to toast 2017 with bubbles.
Start with the Veuve and work your way from left to right on each line to go from pricey to reasonable. Don’t worry, there’s a great selection of mid-priced champagne that packs the bubbles without emptying your wallet!
It’s not officially Christmas until I have a glass (or two) of eggnog. Eggnog’s one of those things that people either love or hate. I happen to fall in the “love” box and enjoy sipping an eggnog to celebrate the season. It’s pretty rich though so I do my best to limit myself to two glasses maximum. But for this eggnog bourbon milkshake, I’m going to have to make an exception. It’s Christmas, after all…
A few weeks ago, I was making my weekend ritual visit to Trader Joe’s (The Eastern Market location cannot come soon enough!) and when I saw their Christmas products on the shelf, I made a beeline for the frozen section. Trader Joe’s seasonal ice creams are where it’s at but my very favorite is their eggnog ice cream. Alas, there was no eggnog ice cream in sight. So I asked an employee because yes, I’m that girl and yes, procuring eggnog ice cream is a task that I take very seriously. And they informed me of my beloved eggnog ice cream’s fate: Discontinued. WHY?! But I was determined to not let this minor setback dampen my Christmas spirit so I made a list, checked it twice, and came up with eggnog bourbon milkshakes.
