Back in the early early days of this little ol’ blog, I used to do a “Food Truck Friday” series where I’d share a different meal from a new food truck and I have to say, I really miss that series. I loved walking on my lunch break from my internship to Farragut Square and doing a few laps around the square to find a food truck that spoke to me…or had an irresistible aroma wafting from it. I’d settle in with my fellow interns and dig in.
Unfortunately, few food trucks make it to the area where I currently work so “Food Truck Friday” was no longer sustainable. I missed checking out new food trucks so when I learned about Truckeroo I circled the day in my planner and grabbed friends to head to Navy Yard. Flash forward a few years and Truckeroo is one of my favorite parts of DC summer.
Food trucks, live music, drinks, cornhole. There’s really nothing better.
In an attempt to not binge-watch OITNB in 24 hours like I did last time, I’m heading to Truckeroo tomorrow with friends to unwind, chow down and start the weekend right (Follow along on 👻: Lauren_Anne2989). I try to try out a new-to-me food truck but sometimes, you just gotta go with the tried ‘n true favorites. Here are my all-time favorite dishes from DC’s food trucks:
P.S. My food photography’s come a long way 😂
Big Cheese: The Thrilled Cheese (seriously game-changing) with Gazpacho
Carnivore BBQ: Pulled Pork Sandwich with Pucker Sauce + Habanero Sauce
Cajunators: Oyster Po’ Boy with Fries
Curbside Cupcakes: Strawberry Lemonade and Carrot Cake
DC Ballers: Falafel Sandwich with Greek Fries (these fries are addicting so don’t say I didn’t warn ya)
Goodies Frozen Custard & Treats: The “Jitterbug” Peanut Butter Shake
Mama’s Donut Bites: Classic Donut Bites and Red Velvet Donut Bites with Cream Cheese Frosting, Powdered Sugar, Cinnamon & Sugar toppings
Roaming Rotisserie: Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with Fries
TaKorean: Bulgogi Steak Bowl with Lime Crema, Sriracha, Fresh Cilantro, Spicy Kimchi Slaw
Do you have a favorite food truck? If you’re going to Truckeroo, please say hi!
