{arm candy}

After a recent post on {Monogram Monday: Gold Nautical Cuff},  @Niki1244 asked me about how I build a stack with color. I prefer stacks that have pops of color simply because my professional work wear color palette is pretty neutral. I like having some whimsy in my life and found a fun stack, or arm party as some call it, is the perfect complement to a conservative work outfit. After all, we all need some fun from 9 ‘til 5 : )

So we start with the basics. These are the metallic of the group to hold the stack together. Even though they aren’t as colorful, you can still have fun touches on these bangles like on the cable cuff from Swell Caroline.

Basic Cuffs

Cable Cuff | Monogram | Bamboo

Okay, now’s the fun part! Which colors are you wearing? Which colors in your outfit do you want to pop? If you’re wearing a neutral ensemble, you have a wonderfully blank canvas to work with and can go in whichever direction you choose. My favorite colorful bangles include

Colors

Neon | Wide | Elephant

Finish your arm party with a statement piece that will stick out from the pack…er, stack!

Bows

Bow | Spade | Polka Dot

Think of your stack as colorblocking for your wrist! Throw the rules out the window and be as daring as you want to be. Experiment with colors and find out what works for you.

 Personally, I wear no more than 4 pieces in a stack during the week at work. While stacks are adorable, they don’t exactly make typing an easy task. You can also stash a couple bangles into your work tote to wear later at a happy hour!

I hope this was helpful, follow me on {Instagram} for more arm candy inspiration!

{Wearing of the Green}

St. Patrick’s Day is about a week awhile so DC Girl in Pearls is going green this week!  I started yesterday with a {Bailey’s themed Thirsty Thursday} and today I’m focusing on style.   According to tradition, you’ll be the target of pinching if you’re not wearing green on March 17th.  Green is a big color in my wardrobe (right after pink and blue) but if you’re looking to add the color to your repertoire, here are some items to style for St. Patty’s Day and beyond!

{Thirsty Thursday: Lynchburg Lemonade}

At the beginning of a new year, WordPress sends me an annual report of DC Girl in Pearls.  I love reading it, it’s fun to go back through and see which posts were most popular. As it turns out, my {Thirsty Thursday: Jack Daniel’s Slush} was the post with the most hits in 2012!! Although considering my demographic, I am really not too surprised :)

In honor of this accomplishment, today’s cocktail is also a favorite of Jack’s…and I do love a lemonade mixed libation.

{Thirsty Thursday: Pomegranate Champagne Punch}

With Christmas under our belts, I have my eyes set on New Year’s Eve. The glitter and sparkle, the fresh start, I love it all.

Champagne is the quintessential drink for New Year’s Eve…but let’s add a pop of color to the glitter, shall we?

Plus, pomegranates are super fruits, right? So you really are just starting your New Year’s Eve resolutions a day ahead of schedule. Yes, we’ll go with that.

{Monogram Monday: Shoe Clip}

Happy Monday!! I had a wonderful birthday weekend (stay tuned for tomorrow’s post!) and now it’s back to reality.

If you look into my closet, you will find it is comprised mostly of basic pieces. I love basics because I can mix and match to create many outfits with a handful of pieces. My shoe rack is no exception to this rule.

I have several pairs of ballet flats: black, navy, tan, green, pink, brown, etc. While my simple ballet flats are a go-to on the days I don’t want to wear heels, sometimes I wish I could add a touch of excitement to them.

Enter Fornash’s {Shoe Clips} to save the day:

Voila! It’s suddenly like a brand new pair of shoes. What girl doesn’t love that?

PM_Jules in the Office

{Jules in the Office}

First of all, I apologize for the lack of posts this week: a combination of Thanksgiving madness and poor planning on my part. I am now back to regular posting, never fear!

Last weekend, I went to {Tyson’s Corner} for the first time in years. J.Crew had  an extra 30% off of sale prices and when I saw the Jules dress, I thought “Why not? I’ll try it on.” I saw it online but worried it would look too boxy on it but I loved the teal color and the fact it’s wool. I especially believe in wearing bright colors in the winter, there’s already too much gray and black! Since it is wool, the dress will keep me nice and toasty.

I tried it on and it was love. Plus, it was originally $198 and I paid $35 plus tax.

I wore it to the office on a casual day:

The Jules dress also screams out brunch…and another post!

{Horse Bits}

{Gold Cup in Virginia} was this Saturday and while I attended in the spring, I wasn’t able to go this fall. However, just because I couldn’t go does not mean I cannot accessorize for it!

The sleek, equestrian silhouette is a classic, preppy look for fall. So accessorize your riding boots and riding jacket with these:

 Fornash Gold Cup Bangle | Fornash Derby Bracelet | J. McLaughlin Horsebit Surcingle Belt

Which do you like best? Have you attended a race? What did you wear?

{Don’t Rain On My Parade}

Lately, DC has been on-again, off-again rainy that left me wondering which shoes to wear each morning. I don’t want to get caught in the rain in ballet flats but I also don’t want to be wearing my Hunter wellies if it ends up not raining. Maybe it’s just me but I feel slightly absurd wearing my rainboots when it’s not raining. While perusing shoes sites, I found my answer: the Hunter Jena.

It’s really the best of both worlds: Hunter-quality protection from the rain and puddles rolled into ballet flats perfect for commuting to the office. If you’re heading to class, running errands or have a casual dress code office you could wear them all day!

Here’s how I styled the Jena:

Jena | Chambray Shirt | Leggings | Bubble Umbrella | Bracelet

Do you prefer wellies or the ballet flat alternative?

{Brunch Style}

There are few events that motivate a DCist to get out of bed early on a Sunday morning: Meet the Press and  brunch. For DC, brunch is a sacred weekend ritual. It’s a chance to catch up with old friends, recount tales from the night before, put off or nurse a hangover with a Bloody Mary and indulge in a delicious breakfast…hopefully with bottomless bellinis!

My favorite places to brunch in DC are in Georgetown and Dupont although I do occasionally step out of my comfort zone :)

When I brunch, I opt for cute & comfortable. These looks optimize both criteria:

Outfit #1

Pearl Studs | J.Crew Tippi Sweater | J.Crew Minnie Pants | Merona for Target Crossbody | Fornash Gotta Regatta Bangles | Merona for Target Loafers

Outfit #2

Ralph Lauren Oxford | Vineyard Vines Skirt | Vineyard Vines Tote | Kiel James Patrick Rope Bracelet | Kiel James Patrick Earrings | Sperry Hayden Loafers

What do you wear for a weekend brunch?

{Prepcessories on a Budget}

Happy Friday, everyone!! Usually, I write a {Food Truck Friday} post but this week I’m not in D.C. so I couldn’t visit a food truck. I wasn’t sure what to write about so I tweeted & asked for suggestions. MadrasAndPearls requested a post on prepcessories on a budget. I have a bit of a shopping addiction (it’s inherited from my mother) but as a college student transitioning into “The Real World,” I have to be on a budget!

Luckily, you can still put that prep in your outfit without spending a paycheck.

Fornash Bamboo Bangle Metal: $18
