{Thirsty Thursday: Rose Martini}

Phew, this week has been jam packed with fun events: gabbing over wings, pedicures and my first visit back to my alma mater to speak on a panel! Running from place to place, I rely heavily on my Lilly planner. Everything goes into the planner in order of events (of course) to keep me on track. I’m a visual learner and if I see it, I’m more likely to remember it.

That being said, I realized with all the hustle and bustle, I really need to take the time to stop and smell the roses.

What better way than with a martini in one hand and a clutch in the other?

Ingredients

1/2 cup water

2 tablespoons sugar

3 1/2 cups vodka

4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon rose water

ice cubes

Directions

In a small saucepan, combine the water and sugar and bring to a boil.

Simmer over low heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves.

Let cool, then stir in the vodka, lemon juice and rose water.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.

Add one-fourth of the martini mixture and shake.

Strain into 2 martini glasses and serve.

Repeat to make the remaining martinis (makes 8 total).

You’ve got the cocktail, now the style

When Vineyard Vines released their Derby collection, I was immediately drawn to their {“Run for the Roses” clutch}:

VV_Clutch

I would pair this clutch with a {white eyelet summer shift} and {a pair of cork wedges} or {my trusty Jacks}.

{A Lazy Saturday Afternoon}

Recently, I heard a fellow bus rider say, “Vest season is the best season.” I honestly could not agree more! It seems vests were created to fit perfectly with fall weekends. A fun alternative to jackets, vests add an extra layer to your ensemble and keep you warm and toasty! You can add your vest for a pop of color or even just for a pragmatic purpose. Either way, vests are adorable. And the best part? They’re monogram-encouraged, if not required!

{Corduroy}

Did anyone else read about the adventures of Corduroy the Bear as a child?

There is just something that makes the fall season and corduroys the perfect match. They belong together like peanut butter and chocolate, pumpkin and…well, just about anything!

Whether heading to class or picking pumpkins, corduroy is a top notch choice for autumn attire. Here are my top picks:

{Brunch Style}

There are few events that motivate a DCist to get out of bed early on a Sunday morning: Meet the Press and  brunch. For DC, brunch is a sacred weekend ritual. It’s a chance to catch up with old friends, recount tales from the night before, put off or nurse a hangover with a Bloody Mary and indulge in a delicious breakfast…hopefully with bottomless bellinis!

My favorite places to brunch in DC are in Georgetown and Dupont although I do occasionally step out of my comfort zone :)

When I brunch, I opt for cute & comfortable. These looks optimize both criteria:

Outfit #1

Pearl Studs | J.Crew Tippi Sweater | J.Crew Minnie Pants | Merona for Target Crossbody | Fornash Gotta Regatta Bangles | Merona for Target Loafers

Outfit #2

Ralph Lauren Oxford | Vineyard Vines Skirt | Vineyard Vines Tote | Kiel James Patrick Rope Bracelet | Kiel James Patrick Earrings | Sperry Hayden Loafers

What do you wear for a weekend brunch?

{Crazy for Chambray}

With the miserable weather we’ve had in DC lately, I’ve been daydreaming about not having to bundle up to go outside! We had a patch of a week where the weather was gorgeous, I packed up all my winter clothes and brought out the sundresses & shorts so I’ve had to get creative with planning outfits.

One of my favorite versatile fabrics is chambray. You can dress it down, you can dress it up and really make it your own! Here are some of my favorite pieces:

J. Crew iPad Case

J.Crew Schoolboy Blazer

Vineyard Vines Corded Dress

Bow Tie for Kids (I couldn’t resist, it’s too cute!)

LOFT Ruffle Front Dress

Selvedge Shirt

What are your favorite chambray items?

{Prepcessories on a Budget}

Happy Friday, everyone!! Usually, I write a {Food Truck Friday} post but this week I’m not in D.C. so I couldn’t visit a food truck. I wasn’t sure what to write about so I tweeted & asked for suggestions. MadrasAndPearls requested a post on prepcessories on a budget. I have a bit of a shopping addiction (it’s inherited from my mother) but as a college student transitioning into “The Real World,” I have to be on a budget!

Luckily, you can still put that prep in your outfit without spending a paycheck.

Fornash Large Watch: $19 (Marked down from $32)

Fornash Bamboo Bangle Metal: $18

Payless Purple Pointed Toe Flat: $26.99 (Love the bow!)
